Job Summary:
The Major Gifts & Planned Giving Officer for Forever Balboa Park is a pivotal role focused on cultivating and securing significant financial support to preserve and enhance the cultural, historical, and natural resources of Balboa Park. This position emphasizes building strategic relationships with donors and prospects, fostering a culture of philanthropy, and implementing effective major gifts and planned giving strategies that align with the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Donor Cultivation and Solicitation:
- Identify and qualify major gift prospects, including individuals, foundations, and corporations interested in supporting Balboa Park.
- Develop tailored engagement strategies to cultivate relationships and solicit major gifts.
- Conduct face-to-face meetings, presentations, and written proposals to secure funding.
- Planned Giving Strategy:
- Design and implement a comprehensive planned giving program that encourages long-term support for Balboa Park.
- Educate potential donors on the benefits and impact of planned giving options, such as
bequests and charitable trusts. - Collaborate with financial advisors and estate planners to facilitate planned gifts.
- Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective major donors, providing exceptional stewardship.
- Regularly update donors on the impact of their contributions and engage them in ongoing park initiatives.
- Organize donor appreciation events and exclusive engagements to deepen connections.
- Collaboration and Reporting:
- Partner with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the broader fundraising
team to align major gifts and planned giving strategies with organizational goals. - Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and commitments in the donor management system.
- Prepare reports and updates on fundraising progress for the Vice President and board meetings.

- Community Engagement:
- Represent Forever Balboa Park at community events and meetings to promote major and planned giving opportunities.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to create promotional materials that highlight the importance of supporting Balboa Park.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on major gifts and planned giving.
- Proven success in securing major gifts and managing donor relationships.
- Strong knowledge of planned giving vehicles and the ability to articulate their benefits.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of inspiring and engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with the mission and initiatives of Forever Balboa Park and its partners.
- Understanding of fundraising regulations, ethics, and best practices.
- Experience in creating and delivering engaging presentations to various audiences.
