Spanning 1,200 acres, with more than 17,000 trees, 68 miles of trails, and 20+ public gardens, the Park welcomes some 14 million visitors each year. But Balboa Park is far more than the sum of its parts—it’s the lungs of San Diego and an escape to nature in the heart of one of the country’s largest cities.
Here, children discover culture, history, nature, and science. Friends meet for museum days, picnics, and performances. Families create lifelong memories—whether it’s a first museum visit or grabbing the gold ring on the historic carousel.
At 157 years old, Balboa Park is showing its age. With City funding uncertain and insufficient, our beloved urban oasis needs all of us to ensure it continues to shine.
Without ongoing community support, critical care for gardens, trees, trails, and public spaces becomes harder to sustain.
Forever Balboa Park is the nonprofit conservancy dedicated to enhancing all 1,200 acres of Balboa Park. Our staff and more than 450 volunteers work year-round to:
Care for the Park’s gardens and urban forest
Greet and guide thousands of guests at the Visitors Center and information booths
Support horticultural projects and improvements throughout the Park
Together, we help ensure Balboa Park remains a natural place of wonder for all who visit—but we can’t do it without you.
