Project Milestones Achieved: The Road Ahead for the Botanical Building and Gardens Revitalization
The Botanical Building and Gardens Phase 1 revitalization project is nearing completion, with Phase Two being led and funded by Forever Balboa Park. This second phase focuses on restoring the exterior historic fountains reconstructing the historic pergola, and replanting the gardens to revitalize the exuberant displays seen when it first opened in 1915. With improved accessibility, upgraded irrigation systems, and structural enhancements, the project ensures the Botanical Building will continue to thrive for another century.

Planting in Progress
A key feature of this restoration is the carefully curated plant collection, chosen to honor the original intention of the botanical displays. By staying true to exhibiting diverse, unique, and rare species from around the world as in 1915, we’re not only preserving history but also allowing these horticultural experiences to flourish for the next 100 years within this prized architectural jewel.. Visitors will once again be able to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Botanical Building, just as it was envisioned over a century ago.
