The San Diego Wave unveiled new uniforms Thursday morning that pay homage to one of the city’s most recognizable places.
The Balboa Park kit, featuring a sleeve and collar design that the team says is reminiscent of the park’s tilework, will be worn alongside the Wave’s deep blue Altamar kit when the team opens National Women’s Soccer League play next month.
“Inspired by one of the most iconic civic spaces in the United States, the Balboa Park Kit celebrates the cultural heart of San Diego and signals the beginning of a partnership between the club and Balboa Park that will extend beyond the jersey and into future matchday experiences,” the team said in a news release.
The new look comes complete with pink shorts and white socks with pink, blue and orange trim.
The team will officially launch the uniform from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park. The event is free to attend and will feature various Wave players and chances to buy the new jerseys and drinks.
A portion of Thursday’s proceeds will be donated to Forever Balboa Park. The San Diego Museum of Art will provide a complimentary gift to all season-ticket holders.
The Wave open their season March 14 against the Houston Dash.
