2021 marked the 35th Annual Holiday Poinsettia Display. The Botanical Building was filled with the season’s iconic flower, adorning the planters and walls with holiday cheer. It was a park experience perfect for the whole family, and the display was free to the public during the building’s normal hours, Mon.–Sun., 10am–4pm, except Thursdays.
The display was dedicated to Ansen Caires, a longtime San Diego Parks and Recreation employee who took great care of the botanical collection and the city’s nursery.
The display was made possible by donors who contributed in honor of loved ones and by the Rodger & Mary Lindsay Poinsettia Fund at The San Diego Foundation. Forever Balboa Park hosted a festive gathering with Parks and Recreation to honor Ansen and give the Botanical Building one last “hurrah” before the closure.
