Introducing the Forever Forum

Forever Balboa Park hosted its inaugural Forever Forum last month — the first in a series of thought-provoking and informative conversations that illuminate Balboa Park. Throughout the year, Conservator’s Circle members will be invited to memorable locations throughout the Park to enjoy light bites, refreshments, and hear directly from guest speakers about the history, culture, and future of Balboa Park.

A Special Evening with Nancy Carol Carter

Our first Forever Forum featured Nancy Carol Carter, famed Balboa Park historian, author, and advocate. Nancy led guests on an exploration of the Park’s landscape history, from its inception in 1868 through the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, revealing how Balboa Park transformed from native scrubland into the lush gardens and promenades we know today. She shared little-known facts about water-shed moments in Balboa Park’s history including that the Park’s very first public-private partnership with the City was forged with Kate O. Sessions. We’re proud to follow in the footsteps of the “Mother of Balboa Park,” whose pioneering nursery work and tree plantings laid the foundation for the Park’s horticultural identity and enduring beauty.

Nancy’s connection to Balboa Park runs deep. You can explore more of her insights in our blog A Testament to Time.

What is the Conservator’s Circle?

The Conservator’s Circle is a core group of Forever Balboa Park supporters who share our vision to improve and advance Balboa Park so people and nature thrive together. Members contribute $1,200 or more each year to sustain and enhance all 1,200 acres of Balboa Park. Whether it’s our care for the 17,000 trees in Balboa Park or completing vital maintenance projects, Conservator’s Circle members are crucial to ensuring San Diego’s crown jewel continues to shine.
Events like the Forever Forum are more than a lecture series — they’re gatherings that connect and inspire. As a Conservator’s Circle member, you’ll enjoy exclusive access to conversations with leading experts, behind-the-scenes looks at restoration projects, and opportunities to meet the community leaders shaping Balboa Park’s future.
