Pay Range: $80-85K

Job Summary:

The Sr. Project Specialist is responsible for assisting the VP of Planning with the daily operations of the park improvement department to help facilitate and coordinate the success of all Forever Balboa Park projects and programs.

  • Work with Parks & Recreation Partner to Facilitate and coordinate park improvement projects and programs.
  • Participate in creating, planning, coordinating, and implementing placemaking efforts in the park.
  • Work on integrating volunteer resources into park activation and park improvement projects.
  • Work with construction and landscape vendors to plan and install park improvement projects.
  • Coordinate and schedule park partner meetings as well as construction vendor work schedules.
  • Assist with projects by coordinating with park partners and vendors.
  • Assist with coordinating stakeholder input and feedback for project presentations to various committees (PIC, Parks and Recreation Board, Balboa Park Committee, etc.).
  • Work with Institutional Advancement staff to provide content which promotes project and other park improvement program opportunities on social media platforms, traditional press and media channels, and in-person outreach.
  • Help prepare cost benefit analysis for projects and provide accurate and timely project data for funders, board of directors, and stakeholder reports.
  • Participate on the project and/or PIC committee.
  • Provide additional support for volunteer programs and events as needed.
  • Assists with grant applications by providing scope of work and cost estimates.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in landscape architecture, land planning, etc.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in comparable role
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communicator
  • Needs to work well both independently and with a team and display excellent follow through and be self-motivated
  • Capacity to take direction and embrace constructive feedback
  • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively in a team setting and semi-open office environment
  • Strong attention to detail, yet able to see the broader picture
  • Proficient with basic office software and applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive and mail platforms). Experience with design software (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, AutoCAD, etc.) preferred.
Physical Demands 
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to set up and take down canopy for volunteer info booths
  • Some bending, stooping and kneeling
  • Sitting for significant time at a desk working with a computer
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Visual acuity to perform tasks
  • Ability to receive and document detailed information through oral communication
