Pitch In For Your Park
Trees for Health Garden Stewards help with routine garden maintenance in the Trees for Health Garden on the West Mesa of Balboa Park, while greeting and orienting visitors at each garden site. This volunteer position helps restore and maintain the garden so it can continue to be a wonderful spot for folks to enjoy the garden and to learn about and appreciate the various plants within the garden.
Volunteer Requirements
Trees for Health Garden Stewards
With over 200 species of medicinal plants, the Trees for Health Garden requires skilled volunteer support to maintain them.
- Must be 18+ and able to commit for at least one year, with availability on Friday mornings (ideally 2–4 hours weekly, minimum two shifts per month).
- Comfortable walking, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors; able to lift and carry garden tools/supplies with partner support.
- Completion of volunteer orientation, training, and fingerprint/background check required; shadowing with experienced volunteers provided.
- Passionate about plants and gardens, eager to learn plant identification and basic gardening skills.
