Phillip Sammuli


Brief info

Phillip brings over 15 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with areas of expertise including major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, corporate relations, and annual giving. Phillip was previously at the Armed Services YMCA - San Diego, where he served as the Vice President of Development from 2020 to present, and Vice President of Legacy and Corporate Relations from 2014-2020. A San Diego native and long time visitor to Balboa Park, Phillip also brings to the role his experience as a major gift officer at TERI and as a Director at Trinity Community Ministries and Lutheran Social Services.

While at the Armed Services YMCA, Phillip successfully completed a $7 million capital campaign, currently leads a $12 million campaign, and grew the $1.9 million annual fund. Phillip spearheaded new marketing and communications approaches at the YMCA using social media, e-newsletters, and online giving strategies, and he brings a donor-centric and impact-focused approach to his fundraising. Phillip has led a 5 person development team, and emphasizes a collaborative and supportive leadership approach focused on professional growth and learning opportunities for each team member. Phillip holds a Green Belt, Lean Six Sigma certificate, and is a Certified Fundraising Executive. He holds a M.Ed and CLAD Teaching Credential in Educational Technology from National University - San Diego, and BA in Humanities from San Diego State University.
